Creating a Unique Engagement Ring

Your relationship with your loved one is unique, so when you make the decision to marry, why not put your heart into designing your own unique engagement ring rather than buying a ring off the shelf?

Since the ring will be worn by your partner, you would be well advised to first and foremost consider what kind of ring she would like. Would she prefer platinum, yellow or white gold? Would she like her ring to be a round, emerald or some other fancy shape? Does she want a white diamond, a colored diamond, a gem or no stone at all? Does she want a solitaire or side stones? Does she work with her hands so that a recessed setting might be preferable? What size might she wear?

Wow, by now you might be reconsidering the whole ring idea. Don’t panic; if possible, snoop in her jewelry box and try to ascertain what type metal she prefers and if she is more into simple or fancy jewelry. If you can discreetly talk with her mother, sister or close friend, find out what they think her preferences might be. She may have told a person close to her what she would like for an engagement ring; she may even have been hinting to you. Pay close attention to the jewelry she wears and see if there is any hint of her current taste. If all else fails, ask her point blank what she would like if she had her choice. Simply asking is sometimes the best policy, as well as the easiest.

Once you have a good idea of her taste, size and preferences, look for a talented, trustworthy jeweler with whom to collaborate in making your unique engagement ring. You will want to work with a jeweler that has done custom work in the past; for something as important as your engagement ring you will not want to be someone’s learning curve. Search until you find a jeweler you are comfortable working with and that you feel listens to what you want. Be willing to listen to what your jeweler suggests as well; they understand the mechanics of ring making. Your design may have inherent flaws so be willing to bend to preserve the wear-ability and durability of the ring. In other words, you may have designed a beautiful ring that is not “mechanically sound” and will not last with everyday wear.

You will need to decide what type of metal, shape of the gem, whether to go with an intricate or plain finish on the ring and whether to set side stones. You will have to make all the decisions about the entire ring when you choose to design the engagement ring. A great way to get ideas is to browse websites and look at rings of all sorts. Look at vintage rings, custom designed and ready made rings for ideas. Gather details from all rings and then envision how you would like the engagement ring to look when finished. Communicate your final vision to your jeweler and they will help you make it a reality.

Designing a unique engagement ring for your very special relationship need not be overwhelming. Take your time and research your loved ones preferences, look at numerous websites for ideas you think she might like incorporated into the ring and then go to your jeweler with your ideas. Work closely with them and your dream engagement ring will be a reality in time to say, “Will you marry me?”

Three Things You Must Know Before You Buy Your Next Cell Phone

Mobile Phones

It seems like everyone has a cell phone these days. From elementary school kids to senior citizens, cell phones have become a part of life for everyone. We feel out of touch if we don’t have access to a phone and so we are willing to spend thousands of dollars each year for the convenience of mobile phone service. While cell phones have their advantages, there are three important things you must know before you buy your next cell phone.

First, be a smart shopper. Don’t fall for the marketing schemes of cell phone companies who just want to sell their products. These companies will often promise all kinds of incentives to get you to buy a phone and sign a contract for their services. When you shop for a cell phone, be realistic about your needs. Do you really need unlimited text messaging? Will you really use a camera feature often enough to make up for the added expense? Make a list of the features you will realistically use and then look for a phone that has those features. Compare prices between various companies before you commit to any cell phone company.
Second, be practical. When you buy a mobile phone, always buy the insurance policy that goes along with it. Let’s face it: cell phones break. They are small and easily lost, dropped or broken. Protect your purchase by spending that few extra dollars each month to get the insurance. Almost every cell phone owner will tell you that they had to replace their phone for one reason or another before their contract ran out. If you don’t have insurance on your phone, you will have to pay full price for a new phone or renew your contract all over again. Insurance is an invaluable asset for every area of life, not excluding mobile phones.

Third, take advantage of the internet. Research online to learn about the many pros and cons of various cell phone companies. Read customer reviews and compare prices. There are several websites available that allow you to see a side by side comparison of the various plans and rates. This will give you easy access to all the information you need to make an informed decision.

While you are online reading about cell phones, consider purchasing a phone online. Many online retailers offer fantastic savings on phones and they can ship the phone directly to your home for a very small fee. The convenience of shopping online makes it entirely worth your while. Make sure you buy all the accessories you will need at the same time to save money on shipping. Even if you don’t think you will need a car charger for your phone, get it anyway. The added convenience is worth the price. If your cell phone’s battery dies five minutes before you get into a car accident and need to call for help, you will regret not purchasing that car charger.

Do your research and use the internet to find the best cell phone for you. Shop carefully and be sure to consider the practical side of the purchase. Follow these tips to find the best cell phone for you and your family.

Tramadol Pain Medication

Tramadol Pain Medication

For anyone who has ever suffered moderate to severe pain, you know how important pain relief can be. Tramadol is a pain medication prescribed to adults with moderate to severe pain lasting over an extended period of time. Tramadol is a generic name for the brand name drug Ultram®.
It is a synthetic drug that was first brought to market as “Tramal” in the 1970’s by Grünenthal GmbH, a German pharmaceutical corporation.

Tramadol is an analgesic belonging to a family of drugs known as opiate agonists, which merely means that they alter the way the body senses pain. There are two forms of Ultram® and Tramadol; regular and extended release (ER). The regular formulation is taken every 4-6 hours as directed by a physician. The extended release formula is recommended for the treatment of chronic moderate to severe pain; it is taken once a day for all day effect.

Be certain to communicate fully with your doctor. Be sure to fully inform them of supplements you may use and any allergies you have. It is very critical that you fully explain your medical history; if you have ever been a drug addict or addicted to alcohol you should never use Tramadol. You also should never be prescribed or take Tramadol if you have had serious head trauma, have a history of seizures, use anti-depressants, anti-nausea drugs or muscle relaxers. Without a full, complete, honest medical history your doctor will be unable to safely and effectively treat your pain.

Tramadol is a potent medication that requires proper use. As with other narcotic type drugs, it is known to be addictive. With improper use it can cause harsh side effects. Use only for the pain it is prescribed for, do not take in amounts exceeding the prescribed dose, never take at intervals more frequent than directed and never for periods longer than prescribed. In order to be effective, the ER tablet must be swallowed whole; never chew or split the pill. The ER formulation can cause very severe side effects and may even be lethal if crushed to be inhaled or dissolved and injected. This very beneficial drug can be dangerous if not taken as directed.

Research has proven that for optimal tolerance and the best pain management, Tramadol dosage should be introduced at very low levels and increased in 3 day increments. This gradual dosage increase method assures a better chance of the patient tolerating the drug and being able to continue using it successfully. It also allows the physician to best ascertain the level of medication optimal for each individual patient.

When it comes time to stop using Tramadol, the dosage will be gradually decreased by the doctor until it may be safely discontinued; simply stated, the body must gradually be weaned from Tramadol. Never stop taking Tramadol suddenly as very adverse side effects are likely to occur. Side effects like nausea, chills, hallucinations, tingling, uncontrollable quaking and seizures can occur with abrupt discontinuation of Tramadol.

Tramadol may sound threatening and imposing but if it is taken with proper care and by following the doctor’s instructions, it will effectively relieve your pain, leaving you free to live your life to the fullest.

Color Temperature

color temp

Color temperature is a frequent topic of debate and discussion among photographers, web designers, and other artists alike, but is not always very well understood by amateurs or those who have broken into their field with self-training. This useful measure of a given color can help determine everything from the correct quality of natural light for a given setting to the precise impact of a specific hue. The terms “warm” and “cool” colors are often used to describe certain palettes, but whereas most would typically describe a vibrant red and orange sunset over against the Austin Texas skyline as “warm,” the color temperature scale is inclined toward the opposite of our cultural expectations about the degrees of colors. In fact, that Austin TX sky would signify a cool color temperature; the spectrum has as its bookends red and blue, with the former being at the lowest end, at the latter at the highest. This may be confusing at fist; after all, water taps emit cold water when turned to blue, and hot water when turned to red, and we associate vermilion peppers with hotness, while we’d typically render ice in shades of blue. The reason for this apparent contradiction can be found in the establishment of the color temperature scale itself.

In the late nineteenth century, William Kelvin experimented with a black block of carbon. Noticing that the block changed colors as it was heated; Kelvin recorded the hues radiated by the block at various temperatures. In the context of this heated “black body,” against which color temperature is calibrated, the departure from typical color associations makes sense; a red flame may be hot, but a heated object burning blue contains a much greater amount of heat. In tribute to his pioneering experiments, color temperature is measured in degrees Kelvin. This temperature scale begins at absolute zero, which is 273 degrees below 0 Centigrade.

Web design specialists and photographers can use color temperature to achieve greater control over the quality of light in an image, as well as the overall atmosphere of a particular design. Just as an SEO expert uses keywords and linking schemes to create a desired result in search engine optimization, design experts can take advantage of the precision of color temperature to create realistic, attractive effects. In general, cameras are set to an indoor color balance of 3200 degrees Kelvin, and an outdoor color balance of 5500 degrees Kelvin. At these levels, a match flame, which has a color temperature of 1700 to 1800 degrees, will appear a deep nude indoors and subdued red outdoors; at the high end of the scale, a partly cloudy sky, with a color temperature of 8000 to 10,000 degrees, will appear a powdery blue indoors and a muted periwinkle outdoors.

In addition to calibration with against these standards, lighting effects can be achieved with color temperature through the use of special color gels on camera flash lenses, or with specialty lighting provided by warm tungsten lamps. With knowledge of the importance of color temperature in photography and design alike, professionals can achieve true to life results and truly set their products apart.

Gifts of Glassware

Gifts of Glassware

When a young couple is married they receive gifts to help them set up their home. Traditionally, the bride’s parents may provide the young couple with a set of fine china for entertaining on special occasions. The china set comes with salad plates, dinner plates, tea cups, saucers, and soup bowls. The couple will also often receive a set of silver ware to help make sure that no one has to eat with plastic utensils when the families visit.

Sets of basic glassware may be received as a wedding gift as well. Usually these are basic water tumblers and often the newly married couple will receive several styles of glassware from several different gift-givers. It can be difficult to figure out what kind of gift is needed unless the couple has registered either at a local department store or with an online retailer. Even then, prices and available selections from the registry may not match up with the gift-giver’s budget or style.

Although fine china and everyday glassware is usually covered, most new couples can use a set of barware as well. Barware consists of specialized glasses such as martini glasses, beer mugs, wine glasses, and even shot glasses or margarita glasses. The wide variety of options for barware mean that the gift can be large (consisting of many different types of glasses) or more modest (with just single set of wine glasses for example).

Etched glassware is often chosen by the bride and groom as the gift item for members of the wedding party. Champagne flutes etched with the newlywed couple’s name, the wedding date, and the participant’s role in the wedding, Best Man or Maid of Honor, for example, are very popular choices. While there might even be a similar flute for the bride and groom, they are usually treated as keepsakes rather than used for drinking, so a set of champagne flutes is still an appropriate wedding gift.

Of course, if you are attending the wedding you probably know the wedding couple well enough to know whether barware is an appropriate gift or not. Obviously if the couple does not drink at all or if either of them have a drinking problem, then you should avoid wedding gifts such as barware that are related to drinking.

It is also appropriate to check with other friends of the bride and groom to coordinate gifts. You want to avoid duplicates, of course, but you can also pair up with other wedding attendees to coordinate gifts to make sure that the couple receives a full set without having any one gift-giver having to spend too much.

Nurse Paralegals

Changing professions in today’s uncertain job market can be a risky move. Rather than taking a chance on a completely new field, building on the skills that you already have through training and experience can slingshot you into a new position and a much higher salary.

This is definitely true with nurse paralegals. Nurse paralegals are registered nurses who have received additional training in basic law. They are an increasingly-needed profession as society becomes more litigious. The personal injury and medical malpractice areas of law are growing and it is difficult for lawyers to interpret and understand the complex medical issues at the heart of the legal action. Nurse paralegals bridge that gap and advise the lawyer on the medical side of the case. They know enough about law to know what is and is not relevant to the matter at hand.

Nurse paralegals can apply their knowledge in many ways such as interviewing complainants about their medical issues, reviewing and documenting various medical reports attached to a case, and assisting the lawyer in building a case using the medical information available. Nurse paralegals can also be found working in insurance companies, government agencies and HMO’s.

Becoming a nurse paralegal is a great way to use your existing nursing training and skills and be able to apply them in a new way. Training courses are available for nurses to become a Nurse Paralegal. This involves significant training as any paralegal would receive. Some training courses are offered online which fits in well with the busy schedule of a nurse. Courses usually include basic legal studies such as tort law, litigation and administrative law as well as research skills and technology.

As important as training to be a nurse paralegal is, so is on-the-job experience. As you are training to become a nurse paralegal, you can begin to work in the field to get experience and to show you what it is like to be a nurse paralegal. Over time, you will have worked with many different types of cases and will be able to find certain similarities between them that allow you to analyze the case in new way.

A switch from nursing to being a nurse paralegal can cement your job prospects in this tenuous market. Hospital beds are closing and nursing jobs are being squeezed. Nurse paralegals are in demand today and for the foreseeable future. Combining your existing nursing skills with paralegal training places you in a perfect position as a specialist in medical legal cases. The specialized training involved- both on the nursing and on the legal side- garners a specialist’s salary and can be a step up financially as well as professionally.

While a change in careers can be scary in a shrinking job market, making the best use of your existing skills and gaining new ones is your best hedge against unemployment and your best opportunity to use your nursing degree in new and exciting ways.
