I can't think of a better place to go than home. I built this house in 1994, and did probably 90% of the work myself. Yeah, it saved money but no, it probably wasn't worth it. I did feel a certain sense of accomplishment tho...
I drew the plans myself, which took over a week, and added lots of artistic touches. There are 60 leaded glass windows in the house, which are those little windows going up the rakes of the house as seen in the center photo. The two pictures on the sides are linked to bigger photos of the masterbath, which highlights some of the leaded windows, and the kitchen on the right. The kitchen is centered in a large vaulted area with a sixteen foot peak, displaying all the little leaded windows. On a sunny day the house is full of prisms.
The house faces due south, and is designed to be a passive solar. The utilities have turned out to be quite reasonable. I live in the Gig Harbor area of Washington state. I'm about 7 miles west of Tacoma, 40 miles south of Seattle.
At one point I thought house building might be something I'd like to do, but I've found something I like to build even better, and you're looking at it right now. (This web.)
