Ok, most of the antileech stuff is in place, and I'll finish the
rest this week. The way it works is, you have to access the files
through the web pages. Direct linking will pull up a leech graphic.
It was a real education learning more about securing files, which
is not a straight forward thing on the web. Anyway, the temptation
for those rude or ignorant web designer wannabees to link directly
is gone, and I hope the rest of you enjoy lots of free web stuff here.
There are over 1200 backgrounds now, and I'll probably add more stuff
just because it's so easy with the database interface now. Enjoy!

Added close to 1000 new backgrounds this
morning, just playing with the new database setup. It's ridiculously
easy to add a great deal of new content. I'm having a few problems
with my new anti-leech system though, but I'm sure I'll have it up
and running soon. Until then, I still wouldn't recommend linking directly
to these files. It could have some undesirable consequences.
1-03
New setup for backgrounds
, wallpapers, and gifs
complete with popup windows and simple navigation. They're linked
through a database now. In a day or two I'll have security in place,
and it will no longer be possible to directly link to the images.
There's a few broken links through the site until I'm done, but that's
the way it goes. The new displays are really handy, and three pages
have replaced 60-70. It's also extremely easy to add new content.
The rest of the freebies will be straightened out in a bit.
Here's a list of my top 50 'referrers'
for the past 7 days. Seems a lot of the bandwidth thieves' links don't
work since I redid most of this site, heh heh.

You can read about this web HERE
if you're curious. Basically, this is a dead old web that still has
lots of goodies. I use it to test production stuff in a live environment.
For instance, the little form at the bottom of this page actually
does a lot of different things, and is part of a package I developed
for clients who want to make simple, targeted mailings to customers
who ASK to be on a mailing list. To see a sample of what is really
happening behind the scenes, click HERE

The freebies link is in the lttle nav table below.

12-16 - An annoying problem on the web is those leeches
who are either too ignorant or too rude to download files from
a freebie site to their own server, and instead link directly
to the files on someone else's server. Incredibly poor netiquette.
Stealing resources from someone that's trying to be nice is
sort of along the lines of biting the hand that feeds and all
that.
I've taken off the login - it was hit and miss with this much
traffic, and too many people couldn't read the userID and pswd
which were in big red, bold caps, and bad logins were jamming
it up.
So, we'll do it this way until I fully implement a new secure
database driven design. I'll check my logs every once in a while,
and when I see a file someone has linked to, I'll just replace
the graphic with something, shall we say, a little less appealing.
If the bandwidth thieves don't like their new background, it'll
be their own fault.
